Tips:
  • CTRL+F / CMD+F is your best friend!!!!! Even if you have to copy and paste web-code/embedded text (that's not hit by your first pass) you can just paste that into another text editor (something like Notepad++ helps in this case) segwaying into my next tip:
  • Always keep a notepad nearby, pen(cil)/pad preferably but honestly whatever works for you.
  • Multiple monitors helps! It's best to have one main monitor at eye-level and try to squeeze as much screen-space as feasible for your workstation.
  • As goes for everything these days, minimize distractions/noise. This goes hand-in-hand with knowing what information is good. If something seems sketchy, just keep it bookmarked in a "Maybe", "Hmmm","Junk?" folder, just in case.

Why bother with all this? This will help you save time, otherwise it'll feel as if you're not making any progress. So as to make sure you're not wasting time googling "How to X" and finding yourself going down a 30 minute long detour that should've taken you 5.

Finding Information Effectively

Finding Information Efficiently

Find the branches online:
Might be a low quality information deposit (i.e. Coursera, reddit, facebook etc) —people will link to other better quality information deposits

Talking to people:
If you’re only making close connections with people, you’re doing it wrong—really try to get recognition with valuable connections//professional connections—if you phrase yourself into a few sentences, such that it peaks their curiosity in you//you’ll be golden.

Don’t just look for one person, look for multiple people who might have the information you’re looking for.

Combine the previous two:
Think of the six degrees of Kevin Bacon, thought-experiment. If you wanna get in touch with someone in the world, choose someone you think might know someone who knows that person or someone who knows someone who knows someone etc..
This can and should be extended to online connections, because you can go further and further into finding someone using SNS and reduce those degrees of connections.
